How we are immersed in Persuasion everyday
Every single day I listen to the radio or watch television there are advertisements trying to persuade me to buy their product, to try a different diet that will supposedly be different then all the other fads and that is just a few ways that external forces are trying to persuade me on a daily basis. Then there are all the people I speak with every single day that try to persuade me to do what they are doing, like what they like, believe in what they believe, and all the other factors. Then we go to class and our professors are trying to persuade us to believe we need to learn what they are teaching because it is important. In the work place people are talking about different things and they are very opinionated and want you to see their what is the right way. When we access the Internet there are advertisements that are trying to get us to buy their product. Each second we are around people, media, talk shows, or even just on the Internet we are being persuaded even if we do not realize it. This is why I personally believe we have to be very aware of others influence and remember to stand up for what we believe.

Hi Brie. Thank you for your post. I'm thinking about it all morning. I talked to my relatives through the skype in the morning and we started discuss very controversial topic about children. I found that they tried to convince me in their opinion and blamed me that I do something wrong, but we have different point of view and interesting that whatever you do or think somebody tries to teach influence on your thoughts, and I don't like it. If I need somebodies help or a piece of advice I will ask about it. I agree with you that we have to be very aware of others influence and remember to stand up for what we believe but what if we don't know something... I personally think we have to find it out and get more education in this topic.
ReplyDeleteIt is definitely true when you say that we are influenced pretty much all day, every day, by everyone that we come in to contact with. It is not just advertisements on the internet or television, but also our friends, family, coworkers, and even just people who cross our paths within our community. There are more people and things influencing us daily than most of us probably would ever think. I think that you are right in believing that we should all try to be aware of the influences of others and to remain true to what we believe in. We are often influenced by advertisers without wanting to be or even being aware of it. It is also easy to be influenced by the people we care about because of our feelings toward them, but their opinions do not always align with our own and it is important to not let them make up our mind for us.
ReplyDeleteIt really is pretty amazing how so much of our lives are filled with persuasion. I liked how you mentioned that sometimes you may not even know that someone is trying to persuade you of something because this is totally true. Something as simple as a sports star endorsing a certain energy drink, or a carefully placed coca cola in a popular movie can be very subtle tools of persuasion. Have you ever watched a television show, and long after it was over had a certain craving or a desire to go out and do something, only to realize later that these things were subtly endorsed throughout your program? People are sneaky! There are so many different techniques and strategies for persuasion and they are all employed on a regular basis. We definitely need to be aware of the influences around us, and we especially need to be aware of the subtle ones because often times those are the ones that really get us!
ReplyDeleteI like how you gave many examples of persuasion. While we are always being persuaded, we also persuade other people in different forms. Media is the harshest form I think. While teachers and our friends persuade, it usually isn't comparable to media. Media makes people feel lower, and the ads they show try and persuade people making it seem like "this" is the better way of life. Women have it especially hard. With all the ad diets you see, they just want you to be skinny, not healthy. I have heard countless times, "Want to lose weight without diet and exercise?” It's not possible, and why don't ads promote women to be comfortable and healthy instead of "sexy and skinny"?Anyways, like I said before the normal day to day persuasion is just another way of communication, but media takes it to another level.
